BAPS Public Affairs congratulates Alejandro Mayorkas on his nomination as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Mayorkas is himself an immigrant, as are many BAPS Public Affairs members who see in his story the American dream. DHS is a key partner for BAPS communities nationwide. Through a nonprofit security grant program, DHS supports the safety of thousands of worshippers, while BAPS Charities has supported FEMA’s work in times of crisis. We encourage Secretary-Designate Mayorkas to follow through on President-elect Biden’s promise of increasing funding for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program and to continue developing DHS’ relationships with Hindu partners, like BAPS, across the nation.
